The Annunciation and Surrendered Heart

Mary was a devout young Jewish maiden in Nazareth, betrothed to Joseph of the lineage of David. The archangel Gabriel appeared with world-altering news: 'Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus' (Luke 1:30-31). Her humble response remains a model of Christian surrender: 'May your word to me be fulfilled'.

The Magnificat and Bethlehem

Visiting Elizabeth, Mary burst into the poetic praise of the Magnificat, rejoicing in God her Savior who lifts up the humble and fills the hungry with good things. In Bethlehem, she laid the newborn King in a manger, treasuring all these divine encounters in her heart as shepherds and magi worshipped.

At the Cross and the Upper Room

Mary watched Jesus grow and minister. At the wedding in Cana, she pointed people to Him: 'Do whatever he tells you'. At Calvary, she endured the sword piercing her soul as she stood by the Cross. After the Resurrection, Mary was in the Upper Room praying with the early believers as the Holy Spirit birthed the Church at Pentecost.
