Unwavering Covenant Loyalty
Ruth was a young Moabite woman who married into an Israelite family residing in Moab during a famine in Judah. Following the tragic deaths of her husband, brother-in-law, and father-in-law, she faced a bleak future. When her mother-in-law Naomi prepared to return alone to Bethlehem, Ruth clung to her with unyielding devotion: 'Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God' (Ruth 1:16).
Grace in the Fields of Bethlehem
Arriving in Bethlehem at the start of the barley harvest, Ruth went to glean behind the harvesters to provide for Naomi. By divine orchestration, she worked in the field of Boaz, a wealthy relative of noble character. Deeply moved by Ruth's selflessness, Boaz blessed her: 'May the Lord repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge' (Ruth 2:12).
The Kinsman-Redeemer and Royal Legacy
Guided by Naomi, Ruth approached Boaz, asking him to fulfill the role of kinsman-redeemer (Goel). Loving and honoring her virtous character, Boaz legally redeemed the family inheritance and took Ruth as his wife. Their son Obed became the father of Jesse, the father of King David, placing this faithful foreign woman directly into the ancestry of Jesus Christ.
