The Favored Son and the Betrayal
Joseph was the beloved firstborn of Jacob and Rachel, distinguished by his father's gift of an ornate tunic. When young Joseph received prophetic dreams of his future elevation, his brothers' jealousy turned murderous. Conspiring against him in Dothan, they sold seventeen-year-old Joseph into Egyptian slavery for twenty pieces of silver.
Integrity in Potiphar's House and Prison
In Egypt, Joseph served in Potiphar’s household with supreme trustworthiness. When Potiphar’s wife attempted to seduce him, Joseph stood on holy conviction: 'How could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?' Though falsely accused and thrown into prison, the Lord remained with Joseph. When Pharaoh had distressing dreams about seven fat and seven lean cows, Joseph interpreted the coming seven years of abundance and famine.
Exaltation and Supreme Forgiveness
Pharaoh made Joseph ruler over all Egypt to oversee the harvest storage. When the famine struck, Joseph’s brothers arrived begging for grain. Rather than taking vengeance, Joseph wept and embraced them, proclaiming: 'You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives' (Genesis 50:20).
