Detailed Biography & History
From the Nile Basket to Egypt's Royal Palace
Moses was born under Pharaoh’s decree condemning Hebrew newborn boys to death. In faith, his mother concealed him in a papyrus basket among the Nile reeds. Discovered by Pharaoh's daughter, he was adopted into the royal household and educated in all Egyptian wisdom. At age forty, moved with compassion for his oppressed brethren, he intervened and fled to Midian, spending the next forty years as a humble shepherd.
The Burning Bush and the Great Deliverance
At Mount Horeb, God spoke from a burning bush, commissioning Moses to return and liberate His covenant people. Standing before Pharaoh, Moses unleashed God's judgments through ten plagues, culminated in the Passover. Under his leadership, the Red Sea parted, allowing Israel to escape Egyptian bondage forever.
Mount Sinai and the Spiritual Foundation
At Mount Sinai, Moses received the Ten Commandments, the moral Law, and the specifications for the Tabernacle. For forty wilderness years, he led with extraordinary meekness, praying relentlessly on behalf of a stubborn nation. Scripture records that no prophet has arisen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face (Deuteronomy 34:10).
