Bikes and Boasting
Read: Psalm 34:1-3; Jeremiah 9:23-24 âHey, Joel!â shouted Micah from the other side of the parking lot at school. âWhatâs up?â Joel asked as the two of them began to walk toward the school building together. âI was wondering if youâd like to come to my house after school,â Micah said. âI got a new bike for my birthday, so maybe you could bring yours.â âSure, Iâll come over,â said Joel. âMy dad bought me a girlâs bike, and we had to paint over the flowers! We worked really hard on it.â After school they went to Joelâs house and got his bike. Then they went to Micahâs house. âI present to you, the fastest bike the world has ever known!â Micah said with a flourish. He looked at Joelâs bike and giggled. âUmmâŠI can still see the flowers you painted over,â he said. âMy bike is new, and I bet itâs faster than yours.â Joel looked down at the ground as he put his helmet on, looking hurt. Just then Micahâs mom came out of the house. âMicah,â she said, âIâd like to speak with you for a minute. Please come inside.â âWait a minute, Joel!â Micah said as he quickly ran inside. He sat down on the couch beside his mom. âWhatâs wrong?â he asked. âHow do you think you were treating Joel out there?â Mom asked. Micah didnât answer. âYou were boasting about your bike, werenât you?â âIâm sorry, Mom,â Micah answered. âIâll tell Joel Iâm sorry too, butâŠI thought you said we could boast aboutâŠâ Micahâs voice trailed off. Mom laughed. âYou mean we can boast about God. Thatâs much different than what you were doing. God tells us not to boast about ourselves because everything we have comes from Him, and putting down Joelâs bike and bragging about your own hurt him. But boasting about God and the wonderful things Heâs done for us helps us share His love with others. What are some things God has done that we can boast about?â âWell,â said Micah, âwe can boast about God because He is so good and faithful, and because He sent His Son to die for us.â âVery good,â said Mom. âHow about you go apologize to Joel and compliment his bike?â âSure,â said Micah. âAnd no more bad boasting!â âEmmaline Craymer How about you? Have you ever boasted about something you own or something you can do? You probably have, maybe even without knowing it. If others have bragged about themselves in front of you, you know how much it hurts. When you put yourself above somebody else, it hurts them. But when you boast about God and the wonderful things Heâs done for all of us, you praise Him and reflect His love and kindness to others. Todayâs key verse: My soul shall make its boast in the Lord; the humble shall hear of it and be glad. Psalm 34:2 (NKJV) Todayâs key thought: Boast about God

July 22 | Who You Are When Nobody's Telling You What to Do | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids
Hey Carpool Crew,Summer does something funny. When nobody's handing kids a list, it's easy for them to forget who they are and just float through the day. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Ephesians 2:10, where we are God's workmanship, made on purpose for good works God planned ahead of time. A kid's worth doesn't switch on when a grown-up hands them an assignment. It was baked in all along. The empty day isn't a test of whether they matter. It's a blank page where the real them gets to show up.This Wednesday episode hands kids three things to try this week: do one good thing on an empty day without being told, whisper a quick prayer of thanks for being made on purpose, and ask the heart question, do I only feel like somebody when someone's telling me what to do? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.Today's One Thing: You are God's handiwork, even when no one is telling you what to do.Scripture: Ephesians 2:10 (CSB)https://carpoolingwithjesus.com Download the ROAD TRIP game: https://apple.co/4xFb21N Subscribe: https://carpoolingwithjesus.com/cwj-plus GET INVOLVEDRequest Free Stickers: https://bit.ly/CarpoolingStickersBook a Shout Out: https://bit.ly/booktheshoutoutSubmit a Question from the Backseat: https://bit.ly/AskTheBackseat CARPOOLING WITH JESUS COMMUNITYFacebook Group: https://bit.ly/CPWJFBYouTube Channel: https://bit.ly/YoutubeCPWJInstagram: https://bit.ly/carpooling-insta Christian podcast for kids, Kids devotional podcast, Daily devotional for kids, Daily Christian podcast for children, Bible devotional for kids, Kids Christian podcast, Christian family podcast, Family faith podcast, Christian parenting, Christian family devotional, Bible stories for kids, Bible lessons for kids, Scripture for kids, Learning about Jesus, Following Jesus, Faith-building for kids, Christian character for kids, Biblical values for children, Christian discipleship for kids, Raising kids to follow Jesus, Christian resources for families, Honesty for kids, Kindness for kids, Courage for kids, Forgiveness for kids, Obedience for kids, Gratitude for kids, Friendship for kids, Trusting God, Christian encouragement for kids, Carpooling with Jesus, Christian audio devotional, Daily Bible podcast for kids, Family devotions, Summer devotions for families, School commute podcast, Car rides with kids

With Love
Read: 1 Corinthians 13 âKeira, let me help you with that.â Alexis reached for a pile of laundry needing to be folded. âIt will earn me points for my youth group contest. I want to get the most points so I can win!â One of the ways kids in the youth group could earn points was by helping the members of their family. Keira frowned and batted her sisterâs hands away. âIâm not signing any paper saying you helped me with anything. Just leave me and my things alone!â The other members of Alexisâs family were delighted with her behavior. They could hardly believe how helpful she had suddenly becomeâshe did dishes, made beds, offered to help with her brotherâs homework, babysat, and even carried out the trash! Keira was the only one who refused her help. Alexis did well in the contest, but she didnât win. Yet to everyoneâs surprise, her helpful ways continued. One day, Keira asked Alexis to help her fold the laundry. Alexis was puzzled. âWhy do you let me do things for you now?â she asked. âWhen we were having the contest, you wouldnât let me do anything for you.â âWell, now you really want to help me,â Keira replied. âBefore, you just did it for points.â Alexis thought about that. âI guess thatâs true. I wanted to win the prize for getting the most points.â âWhy do you want to help now?â Keira asked. âWell, on the day the contest ended, Miss Wilson talked about a Bible passage that says no matter how much good we do, without love, our good deeds are worthless in Godâs sight. She said thatâs why she came up with the contest in the first placeâto show how often we might think weâre earning points with God when we do good things, but if we donât have the love of Jesus in our hearts, our good deeds mean nothing. She said we need to trust in Jesus and depend on Him to help us do things for others out of love, and I realized she was right.â Alexis grinned at her sister. âIâm glad you can tell the difference.â âI can.â Keira laughed. âBut now Iâm sorry I didnât help you win the contest!â âAgnes Livezey How about you? Do you do nice things for other people? Why? Is it so youâll win points with them and make them like you? Or do you think doing good deeds wins you points with God? He says that all the good things you do mean nothing if theyâre not done out of genuine loveâthe kind of love Jesus has for you. Trust Him to fill your heart with His love so you can let it overflow to others. They can tell the difference! Todayâs key verse: This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. John 15:12 (NKJV) Todayâs key thought: Love one another
